All "Added" Up

The purpose of this page is to let everyone know what type of ads different web hosts have. I will list each host, what type of ad they have, and the pros and cons. Enjoy!

GeoCities
GeoCities has three types of ads: Pops, the "GeoGuide" and the "AdSquare". I personally love the AdSquare and the only reason it's not on my pages is that I want to keep people with older browsers from getting pop ups when they visit my site. I like the GeoGuide second best because you can put it anywhere you want to! That is the best part. And the pop up? You can forget that!

Tripod
Tripod! What they should really call it is TriPOP. That is the only type of ad they have to choose from. The funny thing with all these hosts is that if you just don't include the

tag then the ad doesn't show!

FortuneCity
They recently changed their ad policy to make ads automatically inserted at the top of every page. Again, if you omit or place the

tag elsewhere, the ad shows up in a different spot. They also used to have very clunky, unoptimized images in their ads, but they load faster since the redesign. Still slow though.

ACMEcity
They have an ad frame. When you update through the advanced builder or FTP, the ad isn't there for a few days. The reason for this is: there is a machine which inserts the javascript frame onto the page. They also have two addresses for your site, one that begins with www.acme... and one that begins with homes.acme... When you update, it takes a while for the banner bot to redirect your www.acme site to the homes.acme... site. Play it safe and use the www.acme... address and update often! You will make your visitors much happier. Also the frame is slow loading.

Angelfire
Ah, good ol' Angelfire. NOT! Even though they are giving you more features, they took away the "no ad" option. The ads they have are pops and banners. They also have an Angelfire Bar that appears under each ad. These images are not optimized and are slow loading. You can't move them around either! The pops are genuinely annoying as well. Forget Angelfire.

Free ProHosting
This is an interesting server. Absolutely nothing! They allow your own CGI scripts, but that's it. It's no wonder this host doesn't have any ads. They don't have anything to support. Even though the server is usually very fast, I still don't like it only because I need a community. If you are HTML savvy then try this place out. You have to use FTP though.

Crosswinds.net
This is actually a pretty good host. They are very focused on COMMUNICATION much unlike any other host I've seen so far. They recently upgraded, I lost track of their progress. They had many problems with the upgrade. No ads, and they are promising better FTP, and much faster servers. If they haven't had any more problems and are finished with the upgrade, they should be fast. Not any community there either.

CyberCities
This is a really bad server! They have no ads but they are slow and there is no support at all. They've been around a few years according to reviews I've read, but personally they stink. I wouldn't go here even if there are no ads. Expect your site to be down a lot if you go here.

That's about it for now. Thanks for taking the time to read this. If you know of any other ads the hosts I've mentioned provide or have an update, let me know.
